All dancers at Academy of Dance are required to wear appropriate attire and shoes for their class style. Hair must be secured away from the face, neck, and shoulders to ensure safety, focus, and proper technique during every class.
General Dress Code Guidelines
To maintain a professional and safe learning environment, all dancers must follow these basic dress requirements:
Appropriate shoes and clothing must be worn for each dance style
Hair must be secured away from the face, neck, and shoulders
Long hair should be styled in a bun, braid, or ponytail
Short hair must be pulled back with gel or secured with a headband if needed
Buns are required for dancers in intermediate and advanced ballet classes
Class-Specific Dress Requirements
Each dance style has its own attire expectations to support movement, technique, and safety.

Ballet
Girls:
- Leotard and tights
- Optional: dance shorts or skirt
- Ballet shoes
Boys:
- Tighter-fitting pants
- Fitted shirt
- Ballet shoes

Jazz
Girls:
- Leotard and tights or tight-fitting tank top
- Shorts, tights, or leggings
- Jazz shoes
Boys:
- Tighter-fitting pants
- Fitted shirt
- Jazz shoes

Tap
All Gender:
- Short sleeve shirt or tank top
- Shorts, leggings, or tights
- Tap shoes

Hip Pop
All Gender:
- Comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement
- Pants must not touch the floor
- Tennis shoes

Pom
Girls:
- Leotard and tights or tight-fitting tank top
- Shorts, tights, or leggings
Boys:
- Tighter-fitting pants
- Fitted shirt
- Jazz shoes

Contemporary / Lyrical / Modern
Girls:
- Leotard and tights or tight-fitting tank top
- Shorts, tights, or leggings
Boys:
- Tighter-fitting pants
- Fitted shirt
Shoes:
- Lyrical half soles
