Families from Howell, Hartland, South Lyon, and Pinckney can choose from morning, afternoon, and evening sessions — each ending with a live performance for friends and family.

Our summer dance classes are built for dancers who want to grow, explore, and perform. Each intensive runs three days and wraps with a final-day performance where dancers show friends and family everything they have learned. Two programs are available — a multi-style Dance Intensive and a Ballet Intensive — with multiple session dates to fit your summer schedule.

Dance Intensive

Our Dance Intensive is a high-energy summer dance class covering a wide range of styles, combinations, and techniques. Dancers ages 6–18 work with multiple instructors across three days, building skills and confidence before performing everything they have learned on the final day.

Ballet Intensive

Our Ballet Intensive is a focused summer dance class for dancers ages 6–18 who want to deepen their classical training. Over three evenings, students work through ballet terminology, technique, barre exercises, stretching combinations, and full variations guided by experienced AOD instructors. The final session closes with a performance open to friends and family.

What ages can join the summer dance classes?

Both intensives are open to dancers ages 6–18. No previous experience is required.

Do dancers need experience to join?

No. Beginners are welcome in both the Dance Intensive and the Ballet Intensive.

Can my dancer attend more than one session?

Yes. Dancers are welcome to register for multiple sessions across both programs.

What happens if my dancer misses a class?

We do not offer refunds or pro-rating for missed sessions. However, dancers are welcome to attend another available session as a make-up.

Are there fees for early or late pick-up?

Yes. Arriving or leaving 30 minutes early or late is $10 per instance. One hour early or late is $15 per instance.

Can friends and family watch the final performance?

Absolutely. Dancers are encouraged to invite friends and family to the final-day performance at the end of each intensive.

Summer registration opens May 5th, Tuesday–Thursday, 4–8 PM.

Academy of Dance in Brighton offers three competition team tracks for dancers ages 4–18: Star Team (introductory, part-time commitment), Pre-Elite/Elite Team (intermediate to advanced, growing commitment), and Pre-Company/Company Team (advanced, full-time commitment). Classes for the 2025–2026 season start the week of September 8th, 2025. Virtual and private auditions are available throughout August and September for those who missed in-person auditions.

  • Auditions are required every year
  • Minimum of one year dance experience
  • Ages 4–12 years
  • Minimum of one dance class required per week, and must have a technique class in the performance subject
  • Attend two–three regional (local) competitions each year, with optional attendance at Nationals on alternating years
  • Must attend a minimum of one summer dance camp or class, held at Academy of Dance in Brighton

 

Note: No one may enroll in a Star level class without prior instructor approval. Please contact the studio regarding appropriate placement for any of the classes listed below.

The Pre-Elite Team is recommended for our less experienced competitors, as well as those who just moved up from the Star Team. The Elite Team is recommended for our experienced competitors, as well as those who are ready to make a more full time commitment to dance.

 

Classes start Sept 8th, 2025.

We offer virtual and private auditions throughout the month of August and September.

 

Pre-Elite & Elite Team Requirements

  • Auditions are required every year
  • Minimum of one year dance experience
  • Dancers must be over the age of 7
  • Pre-Elite: Minimum of two classes required per week, one must be a technique class in the performance subject
  • Elite: Minimum of three classes required per week, one must be a technique class in the performance subject
  • Must attend one dance convention per year
  • Will attend four regional (local) competitions each year as well as a National competition on alternating years
  • Must attend a minimum of one summer dance camp, held at Academy of Dance in Brighton, and take a minimum of four hours of dance classes per summer (not per week)
  • In order to compete in a Solo you must compete in an AOD Staff approved Group Routine

 

Pre-Elite & Elite 2025-2026 Schedule (Partial)

  • Elite Hip Hop – 5:30–6:15 PM
  • Pre-Elite Musical Theater – 6:15–7:00 PM
  • Elite Lyrical – 6:15–7:00 PM

These teams are recommended for our most advanced dancers and dancers wanting to make dance a part of their future, with a full-time commitment.

 

Classes for our Pre-Company and Company Teams start Sept 8th, 2025.

Pre-Company & Company Team Requirements

  • Auditions required every year
  • Company: Minimum of 4 years dance experience to be eligible
  • Pre-Company: Minimum of 3 years dance experience
  • Company: Dancers must be 12 or over
  • Pre-Company: Dancers must be 11 or over
  • Company: Dancers must take a minimum of FIVE dance classes per week
  • Pre-Company: Dancers must take a minimum of FOUR dance classes per week
  • Company: Dancers must attend 2 Conventions per year
  • Pre-Company: Dancers must attend 1 Convention per year
  • Pre-Company: Will attend FOUR competitions per year, with Nationals every OTHER year
  • Company: Will attend FIVE competitions per year, with Nationals every YEAR
  • Dancers must attend ONE dance camp AND ONE Ballet camp, held in Summer at Academy of Dance in Brighton, while attending a minimum of SIX hours of dance classes per summer (not per week)
  • Company: Must demonstrate proficiency in a minimum of THREE styles: Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, or Contemporary/Modern
  • Pre-Company: Must demonstrate proficiency in a minimum of TWO of the following styles: Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, or Contemporary/Modern
  • In order to compete in a Solo you must compete in an AOD Staff approved Group Routine
  • Dancers will perform at one community performance during the year
